If you’ve walked the rails at Flair looking for a mother-of-the-bride outfit, you’ve probably narrowed down to two names. Ispirato and Condici. They show up in the same shops, at the same price points, for similar occasions. And at first glance they look like variations on the same theme. However they’re not, they’re actually quite different brands with different approaches, and the choice between them matters more than people think. Here’s the honest Ispirato vs Condici breakdown we give our customers when they can’t decide.
If you’re in a hurry, here’s the short version.
Condici is the more traditional of the two. Structured tailoring, a strong hat-and-dress coordinated look, and a catalogue that leans into the classic church-wedding mother-of-the-bride aesthetic. Matching hats are a signature.
Ispirato is a touch more modern. The tailoring is softer, the proportions are slightly more contemporary. Also the styling tends to read closer to elegant evening wear than traditional occasion wear. Fewer matching hats; more standalone dresses that work across multiple occasions.
Both are excellent. They just do different jobs. The Ispirato vs Condici question comes up in almost every mother-of-the-bride appointment we run at Flair, so we’ve had plenty of practice talking it through.
Condici has one thing going for it that’s hard to beat. The coordinated dress-and-hat set. If you want a polished, head-to-toe look and you don’t want to go hat shopping separately, Condici has solved the problem for you.
The tailoring is structured. Jackets and coats have proper lining. The fabrics hold their shape through a long wedding day; which matters more than most buyers realise. A Condici jacket at 5pm looks the same as a Condici jacket at 11am.
They’re particularly strong for classic wedding settings. A country house, a cathedral, a registry office followed by a formal reception. The proportions feel right in those spaces.
The colour palette leans into traditional occasion shades: deep blues, soft greys, pinks, champagne, dusty jewel tones. Not flashy, not trend-led. Designed to look considered rather than fashionable.
Ispirato is the brand we recommend to customers who want to look less like a wedding guest and more like themselves at a wedding; That’s a subtle distinction but it matters to a lot of people.
The silhouettes run slimmer and longer. Necklines are more varied, you’ll find more V-necks and asymmetric cuts here than in a typical Condici line. The fabrics drape more, which gives a softer finish photographically.
Ispirato is also the better choice for multi-occasion buyers. If you’re going to be mother of the bride, then mother of the groom two years later, then attending a cousin’s wedding the year after that, an Ispirato dress can transition across those events more easily than a more recognisable wedding-style Condici look. The styling flexes.
The brand also sits slightly more in the evening-wear space than Condici does. That makes a difference if your reception leans more formal, or if you’re attending an evening ceremony rather than a daytime one.
Fit is the deciding factor for a lot of our customers.
Condici tends to fit best on classic hourglass, pear and inverted-triangle body shapes. The structured tailoring skims through the waist and builds up through the shoulders, which works particularly well for customers who want to create a more defined silhouette.
Ispirato is often the better fit for straight and apple shapes. The softer drape skims over the midsection rather than structuring around it. Taller customers tend to find the proportions particularly flattering.
That said, both brands size consistently up to UK 22, and both work on plenty of body shapes outside these rough patterns. The only real way to know is to try both on in the same appointment. That’s what we’d suggest doing if you’re torn.
In this comparison, price is largely neutral. Both brands sit in a similar bracket, roughly £300 to £600 for a dress, more for a dress-and-jacket or dress-and-hat set.
Where prices diverge is at the top end. Condici’s hat-and-dress packages tend to price higher because you’re buying two coordinated items. Ispirato’s top-tier dresses can hit a similar overall figure, but usually as a single piece.
Neither is the more affordable or the more expensive option on average. They’re roughly comparable.
After thirty years of fitting mothers of the bride, a few patterns emerge.
Customers attending traditional weddings (church ceremonies, country-house receptions, garden parties in summer) tend to leave in Condici.
Customers attending more contemporary weddings (city venues, evening ceremonies, destination weddings in the UK) tend to leave in Ispirato.
Customers who can’t decide often end up trying both on and picking based on how the dress feels rather than how it photographs. That’s usually the right call.
